Amazing "Show Stopping" weekend!

"Game Show" Stopping that is !    My good friend Stephanie from Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo, in Ramsey, NJ hosted an AWESOME weekend crop at the Dolce Hotel in Palisades, NY this weekend, the theme was Game Show - It was a BLAST! and I was fortunate to be able to attend!

I had Lots of FUN scrapping with friends, old and new!  I taught a Glimmer Mist Class - and had a BLAST showing people how to use my "Elixir of Life!"  It was soo cool to have people come up to me after class and tell me they actually started to use the Glimmer Mist they had been carrying around - and that they now felt a little more comfortable - stepping outside of their box  - and trying something new!  Feels good to help others feel good about themselves, and their ability to be create!  Love it!!

You can be my hands and fingers got a little "misty" -- well, Glimmer Misty -that is!!

Here is a "sneak peek" of my 2 pc 8 x 8 Canvas Class, "DREAM BIG"  that I will be teaching at Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo on Friday night, May 14th at 6pm.  Cost is $35.00 per person and seating is limited - so watch for future updates, photos, and details coming soon - and call the store ASAP to reserve a seat!  I'd Love to see you there!

Hope you like it!!

All my bags are packed....

and it is almost time to start my scrapbook weekend !

Well - to be honest  - I haven't packed my clothes and stuff - but all the IMPORTANT scrap stuff is loaded in the car ready to go!

I am sure my friends Pattie and Karrie will be happy to learn  - that - As hard as I tried - I am still an official member of the OPC -Over Packers Club -and I'll proudly wear my badge! LOL! -

Can't wait for the weekend to begin!  Just 3 hrs of work tomorrow and I'm outta there!!  I'm teaching 2 classes -a Tag You're It - stamping class & a Glimmer Mist~My Elixir of Life Class! Woo Hoo - LOVE these Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo weekends!  Such a great group of 50 of my "closest" friends!  If they aren't now - I will make sure they will be by the end of the weekend!

A friend of mine, who I haven't seen in years, and just reconnected on Facebook posted a beautiful saying on her status last night.  I came at a time that I really needed to hear these words - as I received some disappointing news yesterday  - she said:

"Be happy, walk through life with your head held high and live it up! What better way to get through your days than to play and feel the excitement; live up to the life that you love and share it all with someone close to you."

I "tweaked" her message a bit - to fit how I was feeling -

"Be HAPPY, walk through life with your head held high and ENJOY each and every minute! What better way to get through your days than to play and feel the excitement doing what you LOVE to do; LIVE up to the LIFE that you LOVE and DREAM about ...and SHARE that LOVE and those DREAMS with EVERYONE! ♥ "

These words helped me to realize something -Acceptance is all about ME -it is not what others think or choose to think. It is not if I am selected or passed over. If I ACCEPT myself as I am ~ and continue to BE all that I DREAM of being and SHARE those DREAMS and LOVE with others - then I will be HAPPY and THAT is what really Matters in life ~ anything else is just some extra icing on my cupcake!

So.... I guess it is time to pack my clothes and stuff for the weekend - before it gets too late - I need to get in as much sleep as I can tonight - because I am going to fit as much scrap time in as I can this weekend!

Hope you have a GREAT weekend too!

WOW! What a blast!

I had such a great time yesterday being interviewed by 2 great documentarians. Justin, the original photographer, was not able to get out of London due to flight cancelations from the volcano. He sent me an email on Friday night and told me not to worry, he would send his New York film crew!

Saturday morning, I received a call from Morgan ( must have been a countryman of Justin's - same "luvly" accent! ) while I was sitting in the hair salon, getting my "doo" done. He told me that he was excited to meet me and hear my story - and he would meet me at Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo at around 2pm.

Let me tell you - Morgan and Chris were SUPER!
After a little craziness "setting up the shoot" ( Morgan wanted desk lamps to create a different, softer lighting - and Stephanie graciously "ran" home and grab all the lamps she could carry back to the store!) the FUN began!

Chris was a real professional - ( he has worked with Michael Moore in the past) and he made me feel so comfortable. It was like telling my "story" to a good friend. It was so great to meet him.

Morgan was the detail guy - with close-ups and "action" shots - fun!

I put on my typical MOM hat though and asked Chris about any internships or connections for my son Nick, who is a Mass Comm. Major, in his Junior year at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH! He gave me some tips and pointers for him and said he'd keep him in mind. I can only hope that one day Nick will be able to do what he loves to do for a living - and makes other people feel as relaxed and at ease as I did with Chris.

I have to THANK my great friends from Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo for allowing the "shoot" to take place in the store - it was LOTS of fun and very helpful having them there.

I can only hope that the 2 minutes of the 4 hours of film that they took will someday end up on the Cheerio's website, and not on a cutting room floor. I really had a blast - and hope that the video does get "out there" so that I can share my passion of creating and honoring my memories and pictures with others!

When I hear anything about my "possible 2 minutes of fame" being available for your viewing pleasure - I'll be sure to post the link!

Cheerio!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Well - I am still smiling and I'm very excited to have been selected to be in a "Cheerios Love Your Heart Video" for a series on their website!  I got the news yesterday by email, and then the photographer of the shoot called me from England to set it up!   They selected me because I am passionate about my hobby, ( Scrapbooking of course!) and  I need to be Heart Healthy to continue to do it.

This all started with a post from my cousin on Facebook - as her company Turnhere Productions was "looking for people between the ages of 40 & 50 who had a passion for "something" that they needed to be heart healthy to continue to do."

So - my "MOM" hat went on and I replied to her -
"Allie -who are you working for now? - and do they need anyone this summer for an Internship?" You see my oldest son is a Mass Comm Major at a Univ. in NH, and in his Jr. year and needs and Internship this summer.  I also added -"oh by the way - I am between 40 & 50 and I have a passion for Scrapbooking - LOL!!"  So she replied - The company is in Calif. & they don't pay interns ( that settled that right there!)  and I think you would be great for this - I'll email you the questionnaire from the client. "-- (as they have the final decision.)

Soo - I filled it out - and sent it in - and low and behold - I was selected to film the video!!

We are going to film the it tomorrow afternoon at my MOST FAVORITE SCRAPBOOK STORE - ...Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo in Ramsey, NJ !  THANKS to Stephanie and the Doodle-Doo Gang for letting us film at their great location!  How fun is that! - Woo Hoo! ;o)

Here are the questions and answer that I put on the Questionnaire that I filled out:

Describe yourself (2-5 sentences):

I am a full time working mom of 2 almost grown sons ( 21 & 15) and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 27 years. I am the Executive Assistant to the President of a Major Textile Company and have worked for the same company for 30 years. I love to cook, and host parties, and I come from a family of very creative people. I always love to be "doing" something and sometimes wish I could clone myself, so that the clone could do the things that I have to do ~ and I could do the things that I love to do!

What things (besides spending time with friends and family) are you most passionate about doing in your free time?
My favorite pastime/hobby is scrapbooking! Whether on my own in my little craft room, or at a my favorite local scrapbook store, or at a weekend scrapbook get-a-way with 50+ of my "closest scrap-buddies" - I LOVE to create! I am branching out into different mediums and always looking at ways to accomplish something new, while cherishing and honoring photos and memories of my family and friends. I teach technique classes at a local store and on my blog, as part of my passion is also teaching others to "think outside of the box" and reach and stretch out of their comfort zone to try something new. I enjoy showing them how to find their passion and watch their confidence grow.

When did you discover this interest? I have always been interested in arts and crafts, but really got into scrapbooking when my oldest son was in high school. I secretly made a scrapbook for him filled with photos and memories from when he was first born, to his prom and graduation. I presented it to him at his graduation party where he made a point of telling me how much he loved the book, and how all of the friends that he showed it to told him how they wished their Mom had done this for them. I was hooked ~ as I realized, not only did creating the book bring me joy, it brought him and others joy too!

How has it enhanced your life? Scrapbooking has helped me to remember and preserve photos and memories that will be handed down to my children and their children. It is a wonderful creative outlet that always challenges and relaxes me. It has enriched my life with a whole new set of friends who have the same passion as I do and who are generous and giving. It is an outlet for my creative side that I truly enjoy.

How do you make time to do it? I try to make time and dedicate at least one night a week after work, after dinner, after dishes and after going over my son's homework. I usually stay up until after midnight if my creative juices are flowing! I also have a very wonderful and understanding husband who doesn't mind if I attend a scrapbook weekend with my friends a few times a year, or a day long every other month or so.

What role does health play in making sure you can do what you love? Well, scrapbooking is usually done in a sitting position, so I try to eat healthy, and walk whenever I can. At scrapbook events, there is always chocolate and junk food, so I usually bring my own water and healthy snacks along with me.

So - I guess that info is what made them select me!  I'll be posting a link to the video, as soon as it is up on their website - In the meantime  - I think I'll go grab a handful of Cheerio's and I'll go to bed.

I'll need my beauty sleep for my "film debut" tomorrow!!

Cheerio everyone!
